Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Yee, who herself experienced censorship as a high school journalist, is sponsoring Senate Bill 1384 to limit the censorship authority of colleges and K-12 schools. The bill was substantially toughened by amendments added in the Senate Education Committee, where it passed unanimously on Feb. 2.
The bill then passed the Senate 30-0 on Feb. 13, sending it to the House, where it awaits committee action.
The Arizona legislature convened on January 9, 2017 and is scheduled to adjourn on April 22.
